Kidderminster Indian Takeaway Gets Prestigious Food Award
A popular Indian takeaway in Kidderminster, which works hard to offer its customers a first-class dining experience, has been recognised for its sterling efforts to promote healthy lifestyles in the county.
Abdur Razzak of Temptations Indian Cuisine Limited, who fulfilled his father’s dream to establish a family business just 5 years ago, was thrilled to receive a prestigious Healthier Choices Food Award for a four-star hygiene rating and a menu with flexible options.
The Healthier Choices Food Award Scheme is run by Worcestershire Regulatory Services, and is open only to those food businesses with a four or five-star food hygiene rating. It was launched in 2015 and the team are encouraging more eateries to get on board.
Temptations delivers locally to Kidderminster, Stourport, Blakedown and Bewdley among others and often to local hotels and B&Bs where customers from all over the UK and sometimes abroad, respond to favourable reviews on Just-Eat and TripAdvisor.
Abdur admits that when it comes to eating out, he himself is very discerning and always looks at customer reviews and ratings before making his choice, so to achieve accreditation for his own food business was a natural progression.
“My father has been in the food industry since the 1970s working for businesses like The Bengal Lancer and the original Khushboo in Kidderminster and The Robby’s in Kingswinford. He always wanted to run his own business but never had the resources.
From the beginning we have been serving dishes which use traditional recipes, but we’ve given them a modern update; swapping ghee for vegetable oil for example, which helps to reduce the fat content, and adopting particular cooking methods to ensure that curries are not greasy.
It means that our diners can enjoy fine Indian cuisine without having to worry too much about piling on the pounds.”
Abdur and his staff of 5 are continually exploring ways to make dishes even healthier and will also be looking at incorporating free-range and organic produce in the list of ingredients next year. He has plans to expand the business into a restaurant in the future.
“We are delighted that Temptations has been recognised by Worcestershire Regulatory Services with such an important award. Having a worthwhile accreditation signals quality and choice for our customers and certainly boosts business morale”, he said.
I would very much like to see the business grow, and perhaps go on to receive some national awards. Ultimately, 20 years from now, I hope Temptations is remembered as one of the best curry houses in Kidderminster”
