Urgent appeal for negligent owner after skeletal dog found
A male Lurcher, found in the Malvern Hills area, is claimed to be one of the worst cases of neglect the county’s Dog Wardens have seen.
The dog was found by a member of the public before being seized by the Worcestershire Regulatory Services’ (WRS) team and was taken to the vets for immediate, vital care.
He has been named Phoenix as it is hoped that the rescued animal will rise from the ashes following long-term neglect.
He was found incredibly emaciated with bones protruding across his body and has an open injury to his back.
The Senior Dog Warden, Pip Griffin, says: “As families enjoy this Bank Holiday weekend, many will be out walking their beloved family dog, but please take a moment to think of the dogs that do not get the same support of a caring home.
“I’d urge anyone who may know where this dog has come from to contact us so the person concerned can be held to account.”
This plea follows an increased pattern of the Dog Wardens seizing dogs in appalling conditions.
Phoenix is currently being monitored continuously at a foster home. He is being fed around 10 tablespoons of food throughout the day and night, but his outcome is not yet certain.

Pip Griffin continues: “Even though this poor dog has nearly been starved to death he still loves and trusts humans and has a beautiful temperament”.
Residents are being urged to contact Worcestershire Regulatory Services at 01905 822799 or enquiries@worcsregservices.gov.uk with information.
WRS delivers the Dog Warden service by funding provided by the six district councils in the county.
